  • Check out a young Anna Sui—yes, that’s her you’re looking at right here— and other splendid creatures of downtown New York circa that magical late 70s/early  80s moment when it seems like all the last truly cool things to happen in lower Manhattan happened. (The Cut)
  • It pleases me to learn that Mindy Kaling is writing a new book. (SplitSider)
  • The dark underbelly of the Miss USA contest is very dark indeed. (Jezebel)
  • Memo to Sarah Jessica Parker: If it is, in fact, a test, then I think you failed, lady. (Us)
  • The great New York soda ban has been killed, just hours before it was set to go into effect. (Atlantic Wire)

SJP always seemed like a negative person to me. More proof she doesnt have much class, or a good pr agent.

  2. AmyM says:

SJP takes herself way too seriously.

  3. Thanks for the Downtown Creatures link! I actually kind of knew Maripol — I stocked my then-accessories-boutique with all of her wares, including the iconic black rubber bangles. The first time I went to her studio/showroom, Madonna had just been there (Maripol had the Polaroids to prove it)and Maripol regaled us with stories of shooting the Like a Virgin video in Venice. And I somehow saved NONE of that jewelry. Sigh.

SJP is mean, plain and simple. And extremely arrogant. I thought she did a great job on SATC, but what is the point of bashing the show and young actress? I think “The Carrie Diaries” is OK. I am an 80s girl, and the music in the show is terrific

  5. Audrey says:

I don’t think her comments were quite that negative. I mean, how do you think Mark Hamill felt when Aidan Barton starred as Luke Skywalker in the prequel? Or Alec Guinness felt when Ewan MacGregor played the younger Obi-Wen Kenobi. It’s odd. :)

Thanks for the heads up on the Miss USA contest — I’ll cross that off my bucket list.

  6. Cathy says:

I don’t think her comments were mean. Maybe that’s because I agree with her.

I lived across the hallway from Suzanne Mallouk in the early 80s! And now she’s a child psychiatrist in the town where I grew up.
