Mommy was a punk rocker

deadkennedys

Graphic designer and music lover Mike Joyce takes posters from actual concerts that really happened and re-conceives them through the prism of Swiss modernism. It’s very stroller land Brooklyn in its post-edginess, and maybe altogether way too precious, but I am completely down with it nevertheless.

I’d take the Dead Kennedys, the Smiths, the Replacements, and the Sex Pistols. I’d like to have one for My Bloody Valentine but I’m not crazy about that design. Oh such great music memories…

I used to flirt with Henry Rollins at the ice cream store where he worked in the 80s. He was very shy. I think I scared him. YES! I SCARED HENRY ROLLINS!

Swiss Graphic Design isn’t the only way our old faves have been re-imagined…

Oh man, I live in Switzerland, and that poster is so very Swiss looking!

Seriously?? This is totally sacreligious. This is the antithesis of what concert posters for the Dead Kennedys actually looked like (let alone many of the other bands this guy has “reconceived”). Quite possibly the worst news of my day.

I’m with you. The Dead Kennedys one bothers me tons more than, say, the Jawbox ones though. I guess it’s the feeling Jawbox wouldn’t have minded the way I suspect some of these other artists would.
