  • It’s so nice to read a profile written by somebody so completely worthy of her subject, as is the case with this Connie Britton piece by the peerless Susan Dominus. (New York Times Magazine)
  • You might fall in love with Mayim Bialik (nee Blossom) just a little as she explains why she fell in love with science. (Vulture)
  • Fun with seating arrangements. (Daily What)
  • As a younger lady, my friends and I were known to occasionally drink our weight in frozen margaritas at El Sombrero (aka The Hat) on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. And while I once had chicken enchiladas there that tasted suspiciously not like chicken (and later heard some pretty gross rumors about what the kitchen sometimes used as a chicken substitute) it’s one of the last vestiges of the old LES standing, and I will be very sad if this report of its imminent demise is true. (Gothamist)
  • When our heroes disappoint. Hideously. (New York Times)

  1. Say it isn’t so…. The Hat is closing??!!?? As one of your drinking buddies in those younger lady times, I must admit to being especially sad about this…

Mayim is AMAZING. Even in the face of people ridiculing her parenting decisions she stayed calm and collected. I once watched her explain to a very angry woman that everyone is entitled to their opinions, she was simply being a mom the way she wanted to and everyone can do what they want. So great to have an intelligent actor in Hollyweird.

Nooooo not The Hat. I haven’t been there since the 90s, but still.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I lived at 96 Orchard for a while before the LES became the LES and was just the lower east side. It was sad enough when El Sombrero had to stop doing margaritas to go, to close is just depriving youngsters of cheap fun and memories.

  5. Sharon says:

I didn’t think I could love Mayim any more than I already did. I was wrong.

  6. Jana says:

What a talent you are…I love reading your take on life!

Connie Britton is a goddess! When I saw this article I nearly passed out with delight.
