  • Going deep with The Big Lebowski trivia: What was in Julianne Moore’s character Maude Lebowski’s (very briefly glimpsed) record collection?
  • Check out these recently unearthed photos of Marilyn Monroe—taken in 1955 by a 14 year-old Bronx boy who spent just five minutes with her.  Did she ever look as beautiful as she did in candids? (Flavorwire)
  • There really would appear to be such thing as a lottery curse. (Time)
  • In other uplifting news: the link between diet soda and clinical depression appears not to be insignificant. (Smithsonian)
  • Just lovely. (New York)

You’re so right about those photos of Marilyn? She looks so happy. I think she looked better with minimal make-up (or maybe none – can’t tell from the photos). Now me, I need my cosmetics. :-)
And about the last story… yes, so “humorous”, isn’t it? (not)

Hi–I’m a bit late to this party (just catching up on this week’s posts!) but wanted to point out that if you read the Smithsonian article in full, the author’s conclusion is that there is in fact NO clear link between diet soda consumption and depression. The article describes a number of methodological flaws in the study, and uses them to illustrate the difference between a statistical correlation and a causality. It’s a good cautionary lesson for a lot of medical reports nowadays that are publicized in such a way as to get people all worked up — caveat reader. Thanks!
