Morning links

  • These color photos from France in 1914 look almost fake. And yet they are real. (Kottke)
  • Could this be any cuter? I think not. (SplitSider)
  • If it’s December, it must be time for all the magazines to  present their big year-end wrap-ups. Time comes through big time with a Best and Worst package, including a whopping 55 juicy categories, from the worlds of entertainment, pop culture, and politics. (Time)
  • Can’t say I agree with every single entry on this list of 25 stories that should be required reading for women, but there are some greats in there, and it definitely includes all the most most talked-about stories. Also: I’d argue that, headline aside, this list would work even more brilliantly if the required readers were  men. (Huffpo)
  • Manic Pixie Prostitute made me laugh, and I’m not above admitting it. (Vulture)

The playful prostitute also made me smile. I’ve seen similar outfits, worn by hipsters in Portland, OR. The leopard print, black tutu, and sweatshirt, spells Hollywood or Hawthorne Blvd. Additionally, I’m going to compile my own categories for the year-end. Because I never completely agree, with the magazines’ similar summations.

I am at the office crying over that pixie video. It is hysterical. Way better than the freaky girl in the elevator.

I can see where both painter Stuart Davis and the animators of Bugs Bunny got a lot of their inspiration. From photos like these 1914 photos of France.

I too was drawn to a gold clog- but then i saw all the little girls in my daughter’s school wearing the jcrew ones– so no go. but, i have seen a pewter one with regular clog heel height walk by and id be interested to know where to find those.

The 1944 France photo reminds me of “The red balloon”.
