I’m big fan of how everyone is upping their game in this category. Here are a bunch I found just last night while watching the season premiere of Homeland and snacking on Skittles (it’s nonstop glamour over here at the France residence, people) starting with this very happening pair from Steve Madden.
No gal should be without a snappy little easy-on,easy-off foul weather Chelsea boot, don’t you think?
I can’t even stand how much I love this Givenchy pair, which I swear I would be tempted to wear even on pretty days. And possibly this would not be the worst thing, because they are not cheap, and then I might be able to justify their purchase from a cost-per-wear perspective.
I do love a well-deployed buckle, and also the versatile length, and wide, wide top of this pair, which looks exceedingly convenient for when the situation calls for stuffing one’s jeans into one’s boots—as it so often does.
Hunter boots are not my favorites—only because I don’t like wearing anything that’s too obviously branded, and they’ve all got that big HUNTER logo so prominently displayed on most every pair they make. But I feel like at least one of you will call me out if I don’t include them, because they’re such classics. So: I’m fairly certain that if I received these as a gift I’d wear the hell out of them.

Warning: There are 6-inch stilettos more comfortable than those Steve Madden boots. I am a woman who is more than willing to withstand an evening of pain and the week of blisters following in the name of footwear, but rain boots? No. No good.
I bought the Steve Madden rainboots last fall- the best feature is the red zipper up the back- and they work over skinnies.
totally agree on madden & red zipper. burberry cute too. love this blog, perfect mix of fashion & other, through that certain age lens.
Bought a pair of Hunter Boots at Last Call super cheap and simply put a little rectangle of silver duck tape over the logo. Besides…in Texas “hunter boots” has a whole nother meaning…
I am one of those girls of a certain age and I need some fashion advice. I work in a creative field (marketing) but I can’t figure out how to wear the taller boots to the office. I am not svelt but not totally round either…so no skinny pants for me. Also not much of a dress girl but might be able to get behind a monochromatic look with tights and a skirt. How else could I wear the to-the-knee boots to the office?
andrea -how about a slim pencil -ish skirt?
I guess it’s sorta perfect that this post is up on a day it’s raining in NYC. Thanks for the research, Kim! All good options.
I adore the Burberry boots. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. And I love your website.
