  • The Cut is really killing it with their Look Book series: this one, of 45 year-old French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt, is an object lesson in one very cool lady’s mastery of minimalistic, slick, Euro badass chic. (The Cut)

  • Hipster god Jack White was kind of a dick to his audience at Radio City this weekend, insulting them and eventually leaving the stage after playing for only 55 minutes. I love the look of the capri black pants w/leather jacket. I have a very similar jacket and will try thath look once it gets a little cooler! I’m in Delray Beach, Florida so that won’t be until November. Also, very happy to hear about the Calif. news. Just read about it this morning.

I’m no fashion expert but I think that Emmanuelle Alt’s look is pretty boring. There is a way to be chic and minimalistic without being boring. The article says around 2008 she stopped wearing dresses and skirts — that’s when I stopped wearing pants! I wear them only when the weather dictates it. There are so many beautiful, fun skirts and dresses out there and I love wearing them as often as possible. To each her own, I guess.

Love the sad albums list… My Spotify playlist is full up now. But they didn’t have one of my favorites - The Trinity Sessions by Cowboy Junkies – and I’m also sure there’s an album by Patty Griffin that should be on there. She has one of the saddest, most beautiful voices on the planet.

Thanks for the hot music tips, Kathleen! I love to hear what other reliable sources like. There is so much great music I’ve never heard, it seems.

I don’t think Jack White was kind of dick – He was definitely a dick. Obviously, if there were sound problems, he should have figured that out before the show started. It isn’t the fault of the audience. This reminds me a Sleater Kinney show in Detroit in 2003 where Carrie Brownstein yelled at us for being a bad audience. Um, no… They were just putting on a boring show. That made me lose a lot of respect for and interest in them.

I guess I get the appeal of adopting a uniform and having it become your signature look, but it just doesn’t seem like very much fun. No color, no pattern. Kinda snoozy. And I’m sorry, but puffer jackets flatter no one, not even the editor of French Vogue. P.S. YAY California!!

I heart Flavorwire today — there was a “single page” option, instead of the dredded clicking through!!! Huzzah, huzzah!!!

  7. I courteously disagree with the posts above – Emmanuelle Alt is. da. SHIT. Seriously. So frigging effortless and chic. It’s what I notice more and more about women whose style I admire. I could see how to some it might be boring and uniformy, but I don’t think she ever looks bad. Same thing with Nina Garcia on Project Runway. Sure, next to Heidi (aka Short, Tight and Shiny) Klum, some may think La Garcia looks boring, but you cannot argue that she ALWAYS looks chic. And last week’s episode? In those frigging Balmain pants that I could never in my lifetime afford? Guh. I died.

Just read the article about the collector of the opium antiques. Fascinating! You have a knack for finding some really interesting topics.
