Crazy or cute? Metallic boots

I’m not talking about shiny, slick, bright-enough-to-see-your-reflection-in metallic—although there’s certainly a whole lot of that out there right now. I’m talking something more muted and burnished, maybe a bit weathered and not at all disco. These are from a collaboration between Coach and Frye. They might err a bit too much on the faux-busted-up side, but I find myself compelled nonetheless.

How about these? Too hipster astronaut?

See how subtle the shine on these  is? Just enough to make a pretty tough boot come off a lot more feminine.

The cracked leather finish on these is such awesomeness that I feel I might be able to see my way to overlooking those unfortunate crystals on the heels.

    The last two: definitely cute.

    Cutecutecute.

There have been times I’ve doubted you – but not on this one.

    Holy damn, door #3 please!!

  4. Katie says:

I like both the shimmery darker brown and the black. The others seem like they’d be hard or too cheesy to wear with much.

  5. Jill says:

Mostly cute but could veer into “uh-oh” territory if the shine factor is overmuch.

Just found your blog today (thanks, If The Lampshade Fits!) and loving it. Keep on!

I love the zipper detail around the sole of the Opening ceremony astronaut boots!

This is great news to me! Last season I bought the jimmy choo’s featured above online (and on super sale) without fully realizing their shininess. And now maybe I was just ahead of the curve! I should also say that I loved them regardless, but there was one doubting thomas who thought I was crazy. She’ll be getting this post.

The crystals on the last pair are alarming–at least in the photo. I wanted to love the metallic leather trend and in small does I do. Maybe a flat. The first boot is the best though I’m down on Coach lately. Their handbags, especially some of the metallics and overly logo-y stuff, have such a Boca Raton feel to them lately (except the Legacy line).

I’m channelling David Bowie in his glam-rock days…

Bummer! I hadn’t noticed the crystals on the Miu Miu heels until I read your comment. Now I can’t avert my eyes. Those boots would have been a good buy otherwise.

  11. Shona says:

    BUY THEM. BUY THEM ALL.

  12. I am on board with all but the last pair. Espesh the Frye’s and the Choo’s. Which sounds like a slightly less white-trash version of the Hatfields and McCoys. Or maybe like a really weird sneeze – Frye-CHOO! Frye-CHOO!

    But I digress.

    Get ‘em!!

  13. Corrin says:

The heel crystals are unforgivable…but the black shorties are adorable.

  14. Marianne says:

Those Jimmy Choo short boots whyyyyyyyyyy. I am bereft that I shall never own them.

  15. Tara says:

I could never pull off hipster astronaut, but oh how I would envy and admire the women who could! I like the cracked leather, but not enough to forgive the crystal heels.

  16. marjorie says:

All I want in life is those Jimmy Choos. I saw them and my heart leapt. It causes me PHYSICAL PAIN that they cost $900.

I vote yes on the crystal heels (tho not for me) — they look like they have a sense of humor!

    The Frye-Coach = yes
    Hipster-Astronaut/David Bowie= uh…no
Motorcycle Boots on Acid = yes
Mui Mui = I simply can’t get past the heels…no

  18. Cara says:

Hunter has a pair of metallic shiny rain boots. Torn between “awesome” and ” did you hit an oil slick ?”

  19. Lib Aubuchon says:

Agree about the finish on those last ones – gorge – but you simply cannot let those sparkly heels think they can get away with that. They cannot.

  20. joannawnyc says:

I have similarly faintly-gleaming sneakers and loafers that I’m very happy with, so I might go for boots as well.

  21. Viajera says:

Hmm. Well, maybe they don’t show up as nice in photos? I’m not seeing this. I zoomed in on the first pair and they looked like you could do it with a spray can if you know what you’re doing. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) I didn’t see the point. A fabulous moto boot needs no gilding.

The silver ones don’t look silver enough, plus, somehow that heel just doesn’t go with the rest of the boot.

The third pair seemed so subtle that I don’t see a point (again, maybe the photos). And again, there’s probably something you could buy and spray on an old pair yourself.

The last pair are out there enough that maybe they’re in. The crystals are maybe a bridge too far, but you’re wearing silver boots!! Why try to be subtle about it?? They’re *silver* boots.

  22. Jules says:

Those who can pull of silver boots, well, they know who they are, and they will wear them. As for the rest of the population, they will continue to buy this season’s version of boring black.

If you can fit, J crew kids has some cute metallic-toe Macalister boots…
