- When it comes to casting them in ad campaigns, the fashion universe’s definition of “real people” usually extends far enough to include real skinny, beautiful, young people—who preferably used to model for a living. But the new Lanvin campaign is an absolute joy to behold. And this odd, sweet commercial, featuring a crew of what can only be described as hyper-real people, is divine.
- The Office got sent down to Human Resources yesterday, and when they got back to their cubicle, they totally looked like they’d been crying. (EW)
- Naked Prince Harry. (TMZ)
- This woman, a UCLA PhD candidate with a history of eating disorders, became so bothered by what she termed her “pattern of perfectionism and obsessing about my appearance” that she decided to live without mirrors for a year. A year that included her wedding day, y’all. (The Daily What)
- Grace Coddington designed a $1000 canvas bag for Balenciaga, decorated with doodles of her kittycats. And I hate myself just a little for thinking it’s adorable. (The Cut)

That’s a beautiful shot for Lanvin.
See? It is things like this that I never would have seen otherwise that I thank you for!
Love that last moment…
And from someone living in France (where it is commonly used), I can attest that Arnica works wonders for more than bruises. It is the real deal.
The mirror-less woman seems very interesting and positive. Also a bit naive. I am not sure she quite grasps the amount of hatred and self-hatred of women that permeates our culture, much of it reinforced by … women magazine editors. (Ahem. Not you, KF.) And women celebrities. And the women who buy the magazines. And the entire media and movie business.
I’m not sure that being more open about our body image problems will fix anything. I think it will take something quite a bit more aggressive. Or more likely?, it won’t get fixed at all. We need a new wave in the feminist movement and right now I don’t see it coming.
I wish she would post links to her work because it sounds interesting. The website is very chatty, and probably doesn’t convey the depth of her work. Or she could just not be done yet. Anyway, it’s definitely worth a look, y’all.
Hang on, I spoke too fast — here is one of her syllabi:

Sounds like big fun!
I have two mirrors in my apartment: a small one over the sink and a full-length one on the linen closet door. I look in them once a day. It is possible to live your life without obsessing over yourself. I never have and I never will and I feel sorry for people who do.
I feel the same as you about those $1000 canvas bags . . . they are so adorable but the price is ridiculous for what you are getting. I wonder who exactly will purchase those things?
I agree with one of the original comment posters. 20% donation to Animal Rescue for a $1000 canvas bag is pathetic.
That Lanvin ad is great. And, I now know how to say dude, sucks and douche-y in French!
I guess I’m not the only one unimpressed with a naked prince.
I hate you too for liking that Balenciaga, but just a little. Thanks for the continuing stream of great links.
I love you for loving me even though you hate me just a little.
