Call me nuts

…and I know you will, but I’ve been feeling camo for a while now, and am way into these  zipper trousers from Zara. And even though I think there’s about a zero per cent chance I could pull them off, there is still some tiny little part of me that wants to give it a try. What thinks?

    I see nothing but wall.

  2. Maggie says:

Depends on the top. Though I must say that camo reads like mottled zombie skin in this photo.

  3. blackbird says:

I think I need a photo of you.

I like the pants. You could certainly pull that look off. To me the camo’s kind of a neutral. I want to check them out in real life. The fabric content is nice. Thanks for the rec.

  5. Yes, Yes, HELL to the yes. In fact, I went on their website last night to buy them, but they are (or were then) sold out in every size. But they will be mine…oh yes, they WILL be mine.

Well, since you asked . . . remember, you are a “girl of a certain age” and perhaps these things are a mite too young. Or maybe I’m just not on the same wavelength. They look awful to me.

  7. Krystyna says:

Haha, I thought the SAME thing when I first saw these! I’ve never been a fan of camo…it usually looks completely tacky but these pants look badass. I might give them a try.

I have a sudden urge to listen to “Combat Rock.”

  9. Sarah says:

Can see it with a longer top to make the camo a piece of the outfit vs the focus

camo is wrong period at any age.

  11. Cynthia says:

Got them. Love them. They’re really quite neutral, and look better than in the photo.

  12. Andrea says:

    I bought those just yesterday!

  13. Andrea says:

And p.s. camo is classic and therefore appropriate at any age. Especially when worn with a blazer. So there.

  14. Margie says:

It has everything to do with the lower body measurement for girls of any age. Printed pants just don’t work on wide hips and thighs. That’s my rule…no printed pants. Skirts are a whole other deal.

  15. Cara says:

Margie is right; really a question of measurements. Norma Kamali made some great camo downcoats. Can still be found on ebay.

  16. Sally says:

They are great and camo is ageless/timeless. I will be happy when such skinny calves are out though, makes getting dressed in a hurry hard.

  17. CB says:

I like them…maybe with a fiercely tailored black jacket?

  18. Julie says:

I used to be on Diane’s team and thought all camo was wrong unless you were trying not to get shot in the woods. But I just saw a cool pair the other day and I think I might go for it.

i appreciate that Julie…i’m a military brat so i’ve seen my share of camo and i’m all good with it but i love a good skinny pant.

  19. Viajera says:

I do not think there is an age problem with camo. I just don’t like it on civilians. I hope no one is shooting at you!!!

On a related issue, I am not super-fond of the superskinny pant look, regardless of size. I don’t think it’s flattering.

However, all rules go out the window if you really love something!

    You’re nuts.

I tried these on, instantly loved them, then took a breath. I am 42 and I think maybe they are just too young. sigh. Needless to say, I didn’t buy them.

Only if you’re joining the military…

  23. Chris says:

Bulky black cowl neck sweater and tucked into thigh high boots for Fall. Just please no more skinny jeans with ballet flats, no matter the print.

  24. Mimi says:

Love them! Camo is absolutely a neutral, and the subtler the print, the better. I got a similar pair from J. Crew with a narrow leg in 2009, and they still look great – much more interesting than boring jeans. I wear them with a tomato red Jil Sander shirt, black leather Vena Cava fisherman’s vest (I live in the country) and low boots with a 2 1/2″ heel. I do agree that the size and shape of the wearer matters, but imho, thigh high boots are a much greater sin committed by “girls of a certain age” than a camo print.
