Fun with prints: Snakeskin

Ever since I saw this fantabulous blouse on the J. Crew site earlier today, I’ve been obsessing over snake prints, which you so very, very rarely see executed well. I’m not sure why this is—maybe because the color palette is the dullest and therefore the least flattering? In any case, when it is done right, its glamour can not be denied.

The whole sexy secretary thing never really loses its appeal, does it?

These Loeffler Randall wedges scare me even as they thrill me.

One afternoon earlier this summer, when I was in on vacation in Paris, a strap on the shoes I was wearing simply snapped—rendering them completely unwalkable. Happily, this happened in the Marais, and the K Jacques store was just blocks away. I bought a pair of sandals very muck like these, and I love them so impossibly much that I’ve been forced to reevaluate my long-held belief that—unless you are exceptionally tall and skinny—wearing flat sandals is like accepting an invitation to look one size bigger than you actually are.

These are both quite sportif and a little new wave, no?

How cute is this nice little office appropriate piece?

Love a snakeskin print. In fact, last year when approaching a big birthday, I felt the need to find just the right dress to wear for the big event. The winner: A Lanvin silk sort-of-shirtdress, with their classic ribbon belt, in a snakeskin print. It just said “this is going to look its best on someone your age”, and I believe it does.

Those sandals are excellent and I totally agree about the flat situation, but am also a little tired of trying to be tall all the time. So, I just pretend that I am Rosemary Woodhouse and get on with it.

    Happy weekend.

I just bought that jcrew pencil skirt – it is really lovely in person.

    Yes, yes, yes!!!
Gorgeous, all. And no snakes needed to be killed, it seems. (Though if one eats snake, I wouldn’t necessarily object. We don’t have to go there now though.)

I love snakeskin. As I type, I’m wearing an enameled bracelet with a cream/taupe snakeskin pattern (that I got at Kohl’s for $7! It’s a dead ringer for KJL). I love snakeskin almost as much as I love leopard-print; I consider them both to be neutrals.
