We love it when things look more expensive than they really are

Like this deeply elegant cuff from Ann Taylor, which would be quite Ralph Lauren circa 1981 if you wore it with a crisp white button-down shirt.

I feel like they (and Banana, and Talbots) get good accessory buyers for stretches of time. They’re in a good cycle right now!

PS: Who is the “we” in “We love?” Do you have more people on board now?

Nah. Just me and the Royal We.

Yes, there’s a lot of good costume jewelry out there right now. It does seem to have seriously ramped up. I wonder if there was some shift in manufacturing capabilities to make it happen? Or just a shift in the acceptance of mixing fast-fashion apparel into everyone’s wardrobe has made costume jewelry desirable by people who wouldn’t wear it before as well? Whatever, all the better!

I love it when you can find really lovely, affordable costume jewelry – the perfect justifiable indulgence. Cheaper than new shoes, more lasting than a new lipstick.
