Kim, I think you are the person I would be had I not gotten married and had a kid…. I used to wonder how I could equally love shopping at Lower East Side boutiques, scoring something on sale at Barneys, vintage Led Zeppelin (great pics!) and hearing a band a dive bar with a cold beer in my hand. (Not that I don’t still do those things, but much less often than I’d like.) Now at least I know I am not the only one!
I am sure both of you are just lovely, as is. I have a little bit of an issue with this idea that being married and having a kid makes someone a different person. I think it makes you a lot busier, and often, more broke. Certainly priorities change in terms of schedules. But people are still the same people they were before, essentially. Seems that way to me, anyhow.
Yeahhhhhh my kids make me 100% cooler and more pop culture aware then a lot of people I know. But yes, broker
Ugh, that Louie CK behavior on the Daily Show really sent me! I have never seen his show but heard from friends that he was hilarious, and sadly, the Daily Show schrtick was my first introduction. This Feminist was not impressed!
I know NY rent is out of control but Prada not being able to afford it is nuts. Prices of everything are so out of control. I was looking at some older magazines I kept the other day, (from 2001) and a Prada bag I liked was $590 and it was leather. A similar bag now goes for $3000. Same thing for shoes.
Louie CK said a lot of things in that interview – is this all you took away from it? You are making his point for him.
Prada isn’t getting another cent from me ever since they hired Rapist Polanski to make a film for their brand. Srsly, F Prada.
Ditto. Though, I mostly blame the prosecutors for ever offering him such a sweetheart deal to begin with. I bet if he had it to do over again, he’d just do the tiny bit of time. Because then he would have paid and he’d be a truly free man.
Yeah, and then I could just quietly despise him
Yeah, Louis CK walks a fine line for sure but I love him. He said, generally speaking, feminists can’t take a joke and comedians can’t take criticism– which I have to say both ring true to me.
I love Louis CK too. And I love that he walks that fine line. I think he understands a lot about human nature, and the nature of relationships between men and women, and he’s not afraid to articulate stuff that other people are afraid to say.People are always throwing the world “genius” around the describe comedians, but I do actually think he is one. But I thought that his main premise in his whole comedians/feminists things was a drag. I know a lot of pretty fucking funny women who consider themselves feminists. I’m sure, if Louis CK asked around, he’d discover that some of the funny women he knows consider themselves feminists too.
There’s a big difference between talking about “feminists” as a group and “women who criticize comedy on feminist grounds,” and I was disappointed that a man who I consider to be so insightful and smart didn’t get that distinction.
I think he just made a sort of ham handed generalization. I think Louis CK is one of the most ” feminist” celebs out there.
I hear you, Kim. I think you should invite him to lunch and you two can hash it out over some Papaya dogs or something.
Zomg then they can date and tell us about it because I loooooove him.
You guys, he comes in to my local cafe/office-away-from-home with his daughter sometimes and it’s all I can do to keep from telling him what a big fan I am. But I think he might be a bit too complicated a character for me. In addition to which, I hear he has a very nice girlfriend who he treats very well.
Oh, I love it! Ok, we’ll calm ourselves and let him continue to treat his gf nicely in peace.
Its not really fair though to find someone funny when they make fun of everything else then suddenly not funny when they make fun of something that hits a little close to home. It’s either all on the table or it isn’t. I consider myself feminist and find Louis C K hilarious. Laughed hysterically through the whole Daily Show bit. He has loads of self-depreciating humor and, in my opinion, is amazing at the crafting of his jokes. It’s like watching the nuts and bolts of comedy at work.
I’m completely with you on your feelings about Tavi but can’t get on board the Zooey train. Sorry. Girl has skated on girl crushes and bangs for entirely too long.
