Afternoon links

- This whole Tiny Home movement is gaining hipster points by the day—which, given the many and varied opportunities it presents for Extreme Twee—was probably inevitable. (The Frisky)
- And that’s about it for Daffy’s. (Washington Post)
- I want to meet this chick. (Doublex)
- Yahoo’s brand new lady ceo is pregnant—which makes the fact that they hired her (sorry, but I am just that cynical re: the Guys in Corporate) double-awesome. (MSNBC)
- The Boy Scouts just concluded a two-year review of their controversial ban on gay members—and have determined to uphold it. Why don’t you join the rest of us in the 21st century, guys? It’s actually quite pleasant here. (Daily Beast)

I followed the link about the new CEO of Yahoo. I am all for more women in positions of power. Congratulations to her on the new job! However, I noticed in the article that she planned on “working through” maternity leave. It is obvious that she has never had the pleasure of giving birth before. Maybe with her new job she could rewrite how business is done (i.e.finding a work/family life balance)instead of the traditional all or nothing choice of career or family. The previous generation of feminists opened the doors for women to obtain positions of power, now that we’re there, maybe its up to our generation to create policies that will help our daughters to stay there. This would not include “working through” maternity leave.
I suggest reading this recent article from The Atlantic http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2012/07/why-women-still-can-8217-t-have-it-all/9020/
Extreme Twee sounds like a sport!
I am sorry I never met Daffy, and now it is too late.
I want to read that book!
Yahoo: I wouldn’t be too impressed with them just yet. They might not have known she was pregnant. I don’t get the impression it is all that well-run, and just because they hired someone with actual skills doesn’t mean a lot of them won’t actively try to undermine her.
But, otoh, maybe I’m too suspicious! Anyway I wish her well too. Yahoo has been in a weird place for years, I hope they find their calling.
It is too bad about the Boy Scouts. They are robbing children of a lot of really good energy. It is a shame to give in to prejudice, and sets a bad example for our kids.
You know who else I miss? Steve and Barry(‘s). They had some nice stuff. Those affordable sneakers, and there was a sparkly blazer that I never quite got my hands on. Stupid recession.
Thanks for the Daffy’s warning! Just went and used my store credit (two pairs patterned tights, black skirt). Now I won’t get caught with an unused gift card moldering away in my wallet the way I did with Borders, because of you, Ms. Kim France!
The vileness of the Boy Scouts exists in inverse proportion to the awesomeness of the Girl Scouts.
Even if the Boy Scouts decided to allow gays, they would still be on my official shit-list for not allowing atheists (you can’t be an atheist or agnostic and a boy scout, either).
Buy Girl Scout cookies and send your sons elsewhere, is my motto.
God bless Caitlin Moran! Fist pump!
Tiny Homes…really? Silly homes is more like it.
Awwww, I want a tiny home. I want like ten of them in the backyard of my normal sized home. I could have a bunch for different purposes. This is my tiny home where my shoes live! This is my tiny home where I keep my nail polish! But then my neighbors might think I am keeping Disney characters in my yard
