It’s the little things

This lip tint, in a hue Origins called Sherry Baby— possesses the rather miraculous power to make my undereye circles about five times less noticeable. Possibly because it goes on more berryish and bright—instead of (comparatively) darker and plummy?  Which maybe I’ve been wrong all along in believing is my shade? Beauty mavens: is there a lesson to be learned here?

I’m curious… which shade are you using? Tropical Kiss, or one of the others? Thanks!

Not a beauty maven by any stretch of the imagination…just a lurker-fan who can’t not weigh in on this. OK, so, I bought a similar pinky rose on a whim from Ecco Bella (hippie health food store brand). Um…I’m appalled, but I look amazing in this shade. This, after a lifetime of blood red and deep plum. It is so clearly a better fit that it makes me want to barf. So now I’m leaving the house in pink lipstick. It’s like I don’t even know myself any more.

I’m also a dark-and-plummy girl so I will have to try this. I’m skeert.

Silly me, I thought you actually used the lipstick under your eyes.

“Berryish and bright”…. “a lifetime of blood red and deep plum” Oh! This is all quite interesting! For 25 years I thought I should wear only warm reds and/or “a strong lip” to make my face come alive (i’ve got pale skin, blond hair and greenish eyes.) I still can’t abide a nude/ pale lip, but! Just recently I discovered Plum Shine by Maybelline (promise I’m not advertising) and it has changed my outlook entirely. Crazy! And I don’t like pink and I even tried Revlon’s Pink Velvet and even that seems possibly brightening (not sure, though).

Somehow a shade that’s medium, not darkish, seems to be key. One explanation I’ve heard is that as you get older, (i’m 41) too much darkness on the face brings out the lines.

But I also just think Plum Shine is marvelous, and that cool/ warm aspect didn’t matter so much after all…

However maybe it’s a generation thing, too. I recently watched the miniseries House of Eliot (filmed in the 90′s) and their leading ladies often had a strong, darkish lip thing going that felt quite familiar…..

    Anyway- change is fun!
