So the weather’s going to be all charmless and pouty this Memorial Day weekend. But let’s not let that bring us down. Summer will be here soon enough, hot and sticky and excellently lazybones as ever. Here are a few of my staples of the season.
Big-ass wedges.
Lightweight cropped chinos, a size too big so I can wear them all baggy.
A light flowy dress in some interesting, deconstructed shape, so it looks like I made an effort even on the days when absolutely nothing could be further from the truth.
Design-your-own Havianas.
About a thousand tank tops.
At least one item way more hippie girl than me.
An extra-large, indestructible, super-affordable LL Bean tote with a zipper top—so that everything I’ve packed for the weekend doesn’t fall all over the back seat of the car every time I make a sharp turn.

Ah, this is helpful, thank you…I’m not a hot weather person and I keep wondering how I’m going to get through the next few months!
I’m not a hot weather person either, especially when it gets into the 90s. My problem is, I HATE sleeveless so I look for little cap sleeves and flowy tops and maxi dresses with sleeves. I do love the idea of chinos, a size bigger so thanks for that idea. I’ve also had an LL Bean tote (with my name on it) for years and I love it.
Already bought the wedges – fab. Hope you are getting a cut.

So, since there are some real fashion people here, I have to ask: is it true that J Brand jeans don’t stretch out in the seat?
Or is it even possible to have denim that doesn’t do that, eventually?
The last two pairs of jeans I bought would stretch out in a half hour, so I can’t wear them. Far as I know, anything with Lycra will stretch out. If I could get away with even most of a whole day, that would be fine. (These were Levis and they would be very cute if it weren’t for the fabric.)
I don’t wear “premium” denim, so I wonder, is this a problem that’s been solved, and I just don’t know it?
Or, I could just get all cotton, like these khakis, but won’t that stretch too?
I’ve got a pair of J Brand cropped jeans that I wore all last summer—they all stretch out a bit, but so do regular un-stretchy jeans, after all. And this particular pair looked less jegging-y than most, which is always nice.
Excellent news, thanks!
I OWN those big ass wedges! But in yellow. They are REALLY tall. Even for wedges. But adorable.
I have that Bean tote. Being one of the Chosen People, I monogrammed it J-E-W. It comes in handy for militant Zionist getaways.
That is very funny.
I have that same LL Bean camouflage tote and it is going to outlast me. I love it and it goes with everything and everything goes in it! Glad to see you’re blogging! Check out my new and improved website: http://www.rafe.com
